The van went in for repairs this morning, and as I suspected the pads had seized in the offside rear caliper. In fact they had seized and overheated so badly that they had cracked and split, still I wasn’t paying as the work was covered by the Anchor Vans warranty and the work was completed by lunchtime. However….

Whilst they were road testing the van having changed brake pads the guy’s at Bardell & Byrne Limited picked up on another noise previously hidden by the brake squeal and one I would have never recognised. Apparently the front support bearing on the prop shaft is running dry and needs replacing. Now give them their due, by the time I arrived to pick the van up they had contacted VW and got confirmation that as this is apparently a known fault with certain Crafters, the van is under three years old and has done less than 40,000 miles the repair will be done under warranty by VW. All I would have to do is arrange for it to be done. A quick browse of the VW Commercials website and the van was booked to have the work done at Wayside VW Van Centre in Dunstable on a week on Monday.

On a brighter note, I was going to blog to day about how companies aught not publish email addresses if they are not going to answer requests for pricing information. Earlier in the week I requested prices for windows from a supplier and as last night I had not received a response. However without chasing, this morning I received an apologetic phone call with a quote that is a full £400 cheaper than the best one I have achieved on-line. So I know who will be getting the order.
